At most, you can open 100 chests without unlocking a new character. After that, your next chest will guarantee an unlock if the rarity matches any of the obtainable troops.
Note that you may be lucky before this guaranteed chest kicks in. If that happens, your Bad Luck counter is reset.
We predict the rarity of your unlock based on the chest cycle, but opening chests from other sources will increase your Bad Luck counter without advancing your chest cycle.
Pro Tip: you can choose the rarity of your unlock once your counter reaches 100!
For example: save an Epic Chest from the World Journey rewards, and open it when the counter is at 100/100 to ensure you get an Epic unlock. The steps would be:
  • Initial State: your counter is at 99/100.
  • Step 1: you open a chest, your counter increases to 100/100.
  • Your counter is now ready, unlock will be guaranteed if chest rarity is available.
  • Step 2: you open a saved chest of the desired rarity and unlock a new troop!

What is the chest cycle?

Every chest you earn for winning a battle has a predefined rarity, as they follow a loop that repeats every 60 chests.

Knowing the rarity of your upcoming chests allows you to use Chest Multipliers more efficiently.

If you want to optimise your long-term progression, evolving Epic characters will be your most challenging goal. This page shows when you will get the next Epic Chests, so that you can activate your Chest Multipliers and boost your progression.
