IP Colaboration
During September of 2024, Transformers joined Squad Busters as the first game Intellectual Property (IP) that wasn't from another Supercell game. Almost a year later, Sonic the Hedgehog is about to become the second of this kind.
This collaboration has many similarities with the previous one:
Special modifier with new monsters
Limited-time event with a new currency
Squaddies have 3 levels
But also some significant changes:
A new Hero
Squaddies have Powers
New map with Sonic universe theme
Release Event
This update is scheduled to be released on June 17th. As soon as it's live, the Sonic event starts and lasts for 3 weeks.
During this event, you can collect 2 new currencies:
Rings: as loot during battles, daily rewards and shop offers. It can be used to complete the steps of the release event, which is presented as a very long chained offer.
Sonic Hero Points: analogous to normal Hero Points, but can only be used in the Sonic Hero Journey. This special Hero Journey contains all the usual Hero level ups, and also unlocks Tails and Knuckles as new characters; more details in the next section.
To complete all the 100 steps of the Sonic release event you'll need to spend 59,300 Sonic Rings. The total rewards are:

Sonic Hero Journey
Sonic's Hero Journey only has 6 pages, less than normal Heroes, which have 8 pages.
To completely level up Sonic and the 2 new Squaddies, you'll need to spend a minimum of 5,950 Sonic Hero Points. If you also want to unlock the Sonic Headset skin, the total increases to 6,350 points.
To fully complete the Hero Journey you need to spend 6,520 points, but this includes a few items that can be skipped:
3x Chest Multipliers (Page 2, for 70 points)
4x Chest Multipliers (Page 4, for 100 points)
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic dashes into battle with unmatched speed, and when things heat up, he transforms into Super Sonic to lead a high-speed assault!
- Activate Super Sonic to become invincible for a short time. Taking damage will reduce the duration, so be careful.
- While active, your whole Squad moves and attacks faster!
- Moving with Turbo charges Super Sonic faster so stay on the move!
- Speedster units become stronger and tougher just by having Sonic in the Squad!
A speedster with a wild heart, Sonic races from world to world, fighting evil and chasing freedom. Blink, and he's already saved the day.

Evolutions
Knuckles can only be obtained and levelled up through Sonic's Hero Journey.
- Baby: Trait 1
Occasionally goes Digging for Extra Loot
Every 10s, Knuckles can dig in place and emerge shortly after with a random loot item. While digging, Knuckles is immune to damage and cannot be targeted. Emerges with an AoE attack that deals knockback (same AoE as his Power Move).
Super Attack: Digging Charge
This Super Attack takes 10 seconds to load. After it's ready, Knuckles has to be near an enemy to trigger this attack.
Knuckles deals 375 damage to an area with 1.1 tiles of radius. This hit has a pushback strength of 50, and stuns enemies for 0.25 seconds.
The loot that Knuckles may find after emerging is:
Loot | Probability |
---|---|
5 Coins | 57% |
1 Heart | 14% |
1 Golden Heart | 7% |
1 Turbo | 14% |
1 Chest Key | 7% |
- Classic: Power 1 (Digging Charge)
Strikes from afar with a rapid Digging Charge
Digging Charge is an aimed attack that sends Knuckles digging underground. While digging, Knuckles is immune to damage and cannot be targeted.
Knuckles deals damage as he travels through enemies. After a fixed distance (or before an obstacle), Knuckles emerges with an AoE attack that deals knockback damage.
This ability can also be used to collect loot at a distance.
Knuckles deals 340 damage to targets while underground, and an additional Digging Charge damage when he digs out (375 HP).
- Super: Trait 2
Emerges from Digging with a Spiral Uppercut attack
This AoE upgrade provides bigger AoE and more knockback damage. This applies to digging from both the Trait and the Power Move.
- Damage radius: 1.1 ➜ 1.6 tiles
- Stun time: 0.25 ➜ 0.5 seconds
- Damage: 375 ➜ 563 HP
This damage increase also affects the Digging Charge Power, although the damage dealt while being underground doesn't change; only the final hit.
Tails
Basic Stats
Like Tank Girl, Tails has 2 different sets of stats; one for the normal form and another for the Cyclone's walker form.
Stat | Normal | Cyclone |
---|---|---|
Name | Tails | Cyclone |
IP | Sonic the Hedgehog | Sonic the Hedgehog |
Rarity | Epic | Epic |
Type | Summoner | Summon |
World | Green World (W1) | Green World (W1) |

Health | 1,400 HP | 2,250 HP |
Hit Time | 0.70 s | 1.15 s |
Hit Speed | 1.43 hits/s | 0.87 hits/s |
Damage | 117 HP | 286 HP |
DPS | 167 HP/s | 249 HP/s |
Super Move: Cyclone Walker
If Tails loses the Cyclone Walker, the Super Move counter starts, and 20 seconds later the Cyclone Walker reappears at full health.
Evolutions
Tails can only be obtained and levelled up through Sonic's Hero Journey.
- Baby: Trait 1
Pilots his Cyclone Walker
Tails joins the Squad piloting his Cyclone Walker, shooting from its Laser Cannon. If destroyed, Tails escapes “on-foot” and rebuilds the Cyclone Walker in 20s. While on-foot, Tails attacks with a ranged attack (wrench) and moves with a flying animation. His flying animation is stylistic and provides no gameplay benefit.
Tails might remind you of the mechanic that Tank Girl has with her Tank; the vehicle is equipped automatically after spawning and can be lost after receiving damage.
- Classic: Power 1 (Cyclone Laser)
Pierces foes with a Cyclone Laser blast
Cyclone Laser is an aimable, far reaching laser attack that pierces all enemies. If Cyclone Walker is destroyed, using the Power Move instantly rebuilds it.
Although the animation looks like a continuous beam, this power has 16 projectiles that deal 232 damage each. This is a total of 3,712 damage.
Additionally, it seems that if the beam is very close to enemies, the projectiles deal double damage, so a maximum of 7,424 HP.
- Super: Trait 2
Tails and Cyclone get 25% extra Attack Speed
Due to the time adjustments, the DPS changes are:
Tails: +27% DPS
Cyclone: +28% DPS
Spike
Most people think Spike is Colt and Shelly's cute sidekick at the Ranger Ranch. Nobody could begin to guess the depths of his trauma.
Spike, the fan favorite brawler, joins the Squad Busters Heroes lineup with his iconic Thorny Grenade power, which covers a large area in spikes!
Spike lobs a slow-flying Thorny Grenade at enemies at respectable distances. He can hold up to 2 stacks of the Grenade too!
On landing, the Grenade stuns enemies in an area and spreads spikes that slow down and damage enemies. The spikes last a long time and can overlap from multiple Grenades. Keep enemies inside for big damage!
Keep Spike at full health to benefit from Attack Speed increase and faster Thorny Grenade recharge
Spike is set to become the 6th Hero of Squad Busters, giving representation to Healers, the last troop type that didn't have a Hero.

Balance Changes
Provisional Balance
This is a provisional list of balance changes shared by Supercell, but not the final one.
We didn't receive the developer build in time to break down the final stats, so this is simply a list that was shared with us. This is also why stats will appear in an unusual format, as we process them ourselves this time.
There's also an additional round of balance changes expected for the near future.

Bug Fixes & other changes
The requirement to unlock Squad League has been reduced, from 5 Squaddies of each rarity to 3. This is now consistent with the lineup size.
The "bad luck" mechanic for character unlocks is getting a buff. Previously this pity mechanic was only activated after 100 chests, and now it will be after 50 chests.
Squaddy items (Baby purchases) in Hero Journeys will appear as claimed if the Squaddy is already maxed.
Fix: Joystick sometimes got stuck with consecutive taps.
Fix: Archer Queen bots could bust Heroes with one hit.
Fix: Troops stuck outside of the playable area.
Fix: Tank remained alive after the Hero was busted.
Fix: Super Archer damage.
Fix: Ultra Ruffs would shoot 3 Scattershot lasers instead of intended 4.
Fix: Players unable to collect Coins.
Fix: Bea’s bees could disappear.
Fix: Old Mortis Quest removed.
Fix: Battle Healer Level 4 Blazing Light description.
